Charles Meer Webb (1830, London – 1892, Düsseldorf) was a British painter specialising in genre paintings that often depicted the everyday life of rural people. He was educated in Amsterdam and Antwerp and further studied with the famous German painter Wilhelm Camphausen at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf. He developed his artistic career mainly in Antwerp, Cleves and Düsseldorf. His works have been exhibited at prestigious venues, including the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham. The presented work represents a typical example of the artist's focus on the detailed depiction of rural life.
