The prototype of a new generation of popular watches, inspired by the renowned astronomer Tycho Brahe, also features a graphic on the watch’s caseback provided by the observatory established in the Ore Mountains in 1929. The graphic depicts the positions of the stars in 1949—the year when the Czechoslovakian watchmaking tradition was founded.
Although the observatory is now in ruins, its contribution to science and research was significant, and its history even bears the mark of Albert Einstein himself. Over the years, however, it has nearly vanished from the surface of the Earth due to numerous interventions.
The hammer price from the auction of this lot will be fully donated towards the reconstruction of this observatory. The winning bidder of the Tycho Brahe watch will also have the unique opportunity to send them on a stratospheric flight with a space agency, making these watches a Czech historical rarity and the first Czech watches to reach the stratosphere.
