The presented model of the new generation of popular watches is unique to Czech history. The watch became part of the primdovesmiru.cz space project, thanks to which it became the first Czech watch to visit the stratosphere. This project, inspired by the famous astronomer Tycho Brahe, is commemorated by the unique graphics on the caseback, supplied by the observatory in the Ore Mountains, founded in 1929. The graphics depict the position of the stars in 1949 when the Czechoslovak watchmaking tradition began. The auctioneer of the Tycho Brahe watch will have a unique opportunity to wear a symbol of Czech precision and watchmaking tradition, which dates back to 1949.
The primdovesmiru.cz project is the first project of the observatory after seventy-nine years of inactivity. The KOSMOS 01 watch was placed in the lower cargo compartment of the balloon. During its flight, it exceeded the speed of 276 km/h, climbed to an altitude of 31,000 meters and withstood extreme conditions, including temperatures as low as -70°C and high radiation. This daring project went down in history as the most valuable stratospheric balloon launched in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, with a value of over 700,000 CZK. After landing, the watch was tested in detail by ELTON hodinářská a.s.
Although the observatory is now in ruins, its contribution to science and research was significant, and its history even bears the mark of Albert Einstein himself. Over the years, however, it has nearly ceased to exist due to numerous interventions.
The hammer price of this lot will be donated in full towards the reconstruction of this observatory.
